World of Bluegrass: A place to discover new music, a place to be discovered
Valued for decades by generations of bluegrass music professionals, the IBMA business conference is sometimes overlooked by younger members of our community - or by IBMA veterans who’ve been in years past and who may think they’ve heard it all.
But here’s a fact: our business and the wider entertainment and media world are in the midst of revolutionary change. Either we make the change or we get changed by it.
Everybody needs new tools and resources to get the most out of their ventures, whether it’s a music company, an agency or a DIY band. And we all need connections, relationships and mentorships to realize our potential.
The IBMA conference is where you’ll learn the latest thinking, tactics and technology, and it’s where you’ll have relaxed opportunities to meet leading bluegrass label heads, festival bookers, managers and attorneys. The conference is the perfect compliment to IBMA’s famous nighttime showcases; it’s about how the music will get to the people.
Thank you for making World of Bluegrass 2013 in Raleigh a success!!!

“We always make sure a couple of us from Planet Bluegrass go to the convention - the one time in the year we can really talk to people doing the same type of work and at the same time scout out all the new talent and ideas in the industry.”
- Craig Ferguson, Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Rockygrass
“I have gained enough knowledge on the first day of educational panels to make the cost of my full week well worth it, when I think of the time and energy I would have had to spend to access the same information on my own. Then there are the incredible opportunities for networking with promoters, venue owners, journalists and DJs - under one roof”
- Kathy Sacra-Anderson, Hadley Music Group
“What a resource! Attending IBMA business conferences led me to invaluable contacts: leaders who helped us get our Summergrass festival going (now in its successful 11th year!), to emerging bands I would not otherwise know, to event insurance that covers all our activities and a host of others who have advised and helped me and my local organization in every phase of our bluegrass life. I wouldn't miss it for the world!”
- Dwight Worden, San Diego Bluegrass Society
“Each year the IBMA World of Bluegrass becomes a more important part of our bluegrass year. Through our attendance at the business meeting, we have broadened our knowledge and developed an ever wider circle of friends and acquaintances within this tightly knit community. The well-planned seminars and presentations have increased our knowledge and enjoyment in all things bluegrass.”
- Ted & Irene Lehmann, Bluegrass, Books and
“I started coming 1995 primarily to jam, and I did attend a DJ seminar. From then on I was hooked. This event is about the business of this music. I come to learn. I need it to connect with other radio folks, with label reps, other writers and musicians, and business folks in general. I come for the seminars, meetings, and general hallway networking you just can't get anywhere else. Showcases and Fan Fest is just icing on the cake."
- Bill Foster, WAMU Bluegrass Country
"Coming from far away countries, visiting the US, it is often a difficult choice when and where to go to take in as much of the bluegrass world as possible. But immersing yourself in everything that goes on around the music can only be done by attending IBMA’s business conference. At no other place and time on earth I have learned so much about our music, and this year’s edition in Raleigh will be no exception, I am sure!”
